What Do You Really Mean When You Say, "I AM FINE"

Do you know that “I am fine” is the most told lie in the English language? It is usually used when someone is, in fact, not fine but they say “I am fine” because they don’t want to burden others and it’s easier to explain than what’s wrong, would you agree?

F.I.N.E is said to stand for “Feeling Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional”, and can also be “Feeling I’m Nothing to Everyone” or “Feeling Inadequate, Needing Encouragement”. Whatever your definition of FINE may be most of us would just lie and say “I am FINE”, because it’s an easy way out.

Then why do we say “I am fine” when clearly, we’re not:

  • Not sure of what you really feel
  • Pretending to be okay
  • To avoid conflicts
  • Scared to tell what you're really feeling

Only those who identify with these feelings can truly understand the agony behind the words “I am fine.”

The next time someone asks how you are, think about the response you’re already anticipating. What if we didn’t settle for “fine”? What if we stop, take a moment, and answer with true sincerity how I’m doing? Or better yet, tell them how you’re feeling. We could all benefit from slowing down and honestly evaluating how we are doing.

How to Create an Unstoppable Mindset with Billy

Have you ever wondered how someone can rebuild their confidence after facing life-shattering trauma?

In this episode, “How to Create an Unstoppable Mindset,” recently featured on the Mental Toughness and Body Show podcast with Robb Evans, I share my personal journey of reclaiming confidence and strength after adversity. From surviving war, being held hostage, and enduring bullying, I opened up about how these experiences impacted my identity and how I found the courage to rebuild my self-worth.

We dive deep into the importance of recognising your needs, asking for support, and taking small steps to regain confidence, even when it feels impossible. What struck me most during this conversation was the realisation that true confidence isn’t built when life is easy—it’s built through daily actions, even on the hardest days.

Tune in to hear more about:

  • The emotional journey of rebuilding confidence after trauma

  • How to reframe your mindset to unlock your true potential

  • The small, powerful steps you can take to regain control of your life

We also talked about how exercise played a crucial role in helping me reclaim my confidence. It became a pillar in my journey, something that helped me take control of my life, step out of my comfort zone, and find consistency, even in the messiness.

Tune in to this episode—I hope to inspire you to embrace the messiness of life, set small goals, and know that no matter where you start, you can build the life you deserve—one step at a time.
